Der Fachverband für Judaistik, Jüdische Studien, Jüdische Theologie e.V. gratuliert Prof. Dr. Peter Schäfer sehr herzlich zur Verleihung der Ehrendoktorwürde („Doctor of Hebrew Letters“ honoris causa [DHL]) des Jewish Theological Seminary in New York am 19.5.2026. Dies ist eine besondere Wertschätzung der Arbeit Prof. Schäfers, der die Judaistik in Deutschland und weltweit jahrzehntelangnachhaltig geprägt hat.

“Your groundbreaking scholarship in ancient religion has transformed the study of Early Judaism, Jewish Mysticism, and the relationship between Judaism and Christianity. You have played an instrumental role in reviving the discipline of Jewish Studies in post-Holocaust Germany. You also played a foundational role in advancing the field through your leadership of Princeton’s Program in Judaic Studies and as co-founder of the Jewish Studies Quarterly.
